Another blockage to partial return of Amtrak Gulf Coast passenger train service, exclusive of Florida, appears to be not only the Port Director of Mobile but also his counterparts at New Orleans along with some freight railways that serve those facilities.

One thing is for sure: Restoring many of these long-distance train services, including the Sunset Limited route between Jacksonville and New Orleans won't happen if Amtrak does not get congress to procure an order for MORE ROLLING STOCK! The refresh of old equipment and the recent Viewliner II car order was piecemeal and nothing more to retire the last of its aging heritgae fleet. Amtrak needs not just a hundred or so, more like a thousand!
