Your help is urgently needed to restore full train service to [community name].  

Until Hurricane Katrina, Amtrak’s Sunset Limited, linked [community name] to New Orleans and points west. The service is greatly important to tourism and commerce. In fact, the Sunset Limited connects [community name] and other Florida cities and towns to two-thirds of the national Amtrak system.  

Hurricane Katrina passed through Florida and the upper Gulf Coast states nine months ago now. But while the Sunset Limited has long resumed running westbound from New Orleans, Amtrak has yet to announce a date that  Sunset Limited service will resume to the east, despite the fact that hurricane-damaged railroad tracks, signals, and bridges have long been restored along this route.  

[Addressee’s Name], I am urging you and other local leaders to contact Amtrak’s Chairman David Laney and ask him to end the dallying at Amtrak. The Sunset Limited should be restored to its pre-Katrina schedule and route as soon as possible.
